2012-03 Netherlands workshop and MC minutes

INTIMATE workshop and 3rd MC meeting March 25-29 2012

The abstract volume, workshop report, and MC meeting minutes are available below.

2011-11 Modelling workshop

The last deglaciation: towards model-data integration

The workshop was held in Copenhagen on November 3-4, 2011 and was organized by Hans Renssen, Sune Olander Rasmussen, Simon Blockley, and Didier M. Roche.
General objectives workshop:
•    to involve wider modelling community in COST-INTIMATE,
•    to obtain an overview of state of the art in modelling (and data) of the last deglaciation,
•    to set specific modelling targets,
•    to decide how to proceed with model-data comparisons; discuss different strategies such as forward modelling and data-assimilation,
•    to discuss how COST-INTIMATE data could be used in this procedure, what would be needed (wish-list), and
•    to evaluate the climatic processes associated with past meltwater and iceberg discharges during the last deglaciation through both modeling and comparison against relevant paleoceanographic and terrestrial data.
The workshop also aimed to foster collaboration between INTIMATE and the partner projects MOCA (INQUA project 0803), INTIMAUS-INTIMATE (INQUA project 0806), and ACER (INQUA project 1004).

The workshop abstract book is available here.

The workshop report is available below.

2011-10 Marine radiocarbon

INTIMATE WORKSHOP “Marine Radiocarbon and the INTIMATE timescale”

This workshop was organized within the framework of Working Group 1 of the INTIMATE. The focus was on marine radiocarbon, with an emphasis on marine radiocarbon reservoir effects and calibration. The workshop was organized by Bill Austin (St Andrews) and Paula Reimer (Belfast) and took place on Thursday 27 October 2011 at the Geological Society of London’s meeting rooms at Burlington House, Piccadilly.

2011-10 ACER-INTIMATE ocean workshop

Last Glacial Abrupt Climate Changes and Sea Surface Temperature Response

The workshop was held at the University Bordeaux 1 between the 3rd and the 6th October 2011. Fourteen scientists attended this workshop which was funded by INQUA and INTIMATE COST. This assembly was a continuation of the QUEST-DESIRE and ACER workshops devoted to document the vegetation and fire regime response to the abrupt climatic variability of the Last Glacial, Dansgaard-Oeschger and Heinrich events. This data-synthesis effort is crucial to understand the dynamics of the climate system and to explain rapid (i.e. abrupt) and large-amplitude variations observed in ice archives including feedback mechanisms involved.
